As a Program Assistant and Driver, your day is centered on the safety and success of our students. You will spend the majority of your time (80% of your time) behind the wheel of an ANSEP 15-passenger van, serving as a critical link between our campus and community activities. This is more than just a driving role; you are the primary supervisor on the road, ensuring students and staff adhere to safety standards while managing the energy and behavior of the group from loading to disembarkment. You’ll be the face of ANSEP during transit, maintaining a professional and supportive environment for every passenger.
When you aren’t on the road, you are an essential part of our behind-the-scenes operations. You’ll work closely with site leadership to prep and organize materials for student activities, provide administrative support and help facilitate statewide events throughout the year.
To thrive in this role, you should be a highly responsible and observant professional who enjoys working with students in a fast-paced environment. Success requires a unique blend of technical driving skill and strong interpersonal leadership, as you will be the primary authority figure for students during transport and off-campus activities. We are looking for an individual who can maintain a high level of vigilance, set firm but professional boundaries, and remain calm and decisive during unexpected situations or emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Some college coursework in a STEM, education or related field and two years of experience related to school aged children, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Current CPR with AED/First Aid certification preferred.
Position requires driving an ANSEP vehicle. Applicant must be 21 and older to apply and have a valid AK driver's license with three years of a clean driving record on a valid driver's license.
Experience working with rural and/or Indigenous Alaska populations preferred.
Position Details:
This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, non-exempt, temporary staff position. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 77, based on education and experience.
