The Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is seeking a motivated and innovative AI Support and Integration Specialist to join our AI Resource Program. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of small businesses across Alaska by assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of cutting-edge AI tools and technologies.
As the AI Implementation & Support Specialist, you will support the development, implementation, and ongoing operation of artificial intelligence solutions that align with business requisites and organizational goals, with particular attention to the unique needs of rural and remote communities in Alaska. You will apply your foundational knowledge of AI and machine learning technologies, including a working understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, to assist in the deployment and integration of AI tools that improve efficiency, access to information, and service delivery across geographically dispersed areas. In this role, you will provide technical support for AI platforms by troubleshooting issues, maintaining system reliability, and ensuring appropriate security and operational standards are met, while considering the infrastructure limitations often present in rural Alaskan environments, such as limited connectivity and remote operations. You will work closely with stakeholders to analyze business requirements and help translate them into practical AI-enabled solutions that support both urban and rural service delivery. This includes gathering, documenting, and analyzing relevant data to support AI initiatives and project outcomes. You will also play a key role in communicating AI concepts to non-technical audiences, including staff working in rural and remote locations, helping teams understand how AI tools can enhance their work and support community needs. Responsibilities include developing and delivering training sessions, supporting adoption of AI technologies, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation across diverse operational environments.. Occasional travel is required as is attendance at meetings outside of normal business hours.
To thrive in this position, the ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related area, with two years of experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Hands-on experience with AI tools and platforms, particularly ChatGPT and other Large Language Models (LLMs), is essential. The candidate should have experience working with APIs to integrate AI services and develop custom solutions. Familiarity with small business or healthcare operations and challenges is beneficial. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex AI concepts to diverse audiences. Experience conducting training and information sessions is necessary. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills are essential, enabling the candidate to evaluate AI solutions in line with specific business objectives and identify strategic applications. Familiarity with data analysis principles and an understanding of various business processes are advantageous. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of working independently while supporting teams across Alaska’s diverse and often remote regions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology, Computer Science, etc.) and 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Position Details:
This position is located at the SBDC Office in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a term-funded, full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
