The University of Alaska inspires learning, and advances and disseminates knowledge through teaching, research, and public service, emphasizing the North and its diverse peoples.
I first joined the University through a temporary pool, and what began as a job quickly became a career. From the start, my supervisors invested in my growth by encouraging training, conference participation, and advancement. The university truly changed my life, giving me purpose, expertise, and lasting professional relationships. Knowing my child and I both earned degrees here through tuition waivers makes this place even more meaningful to me. There have been ups and downs in my university experience but the theme that has remained consistent is I love the work I do and the relationships I build. There is something special about working at a place that touches so many lives.
I most recently applied for the Ketchikan Campus Director role and was reminded how welcoming and supportive the hiring process at the University of Alaska truly is. I began my career here as an adjunct instructor in 2007 and, through mentorship and professional development, progressed to full professor and university administration. What has kept me here is the shared mission, seeing the lasting impact our work has on students, communities, and Alaska as a whole. It’s meaningful work, and each graduating class reinforces why it matters.
The hiring and onboarding process was straightforward, with frequent, helpful communication and a team that was always willing to answer questions. I felt supported from the start and settled in quickly thanks to how welcoming and helpful everyone has been, both in learning my role and adjusting to life in Alaska. And don’t let the weather scare you, the state is absolutely breathtaking and an incredible place to live and work.
The application process was easy to navigate, and communication throughout the interview process was clear and timely. Everyone I interacted with was welcoming and supportive. Since joining the team, I’ve felt truly supported. My coworkers are always willing to help, which has made the transition from the private sector a great experience.
I applied to the University from my college town in South Carolina, but clear and consistent communication from HR made the remote hiring process feel personal and engaging.I was thrilled when the opportunity ultimately led to a job in Alaska. I found roles through careers.alaska.edu and appreciated HR’s support throughout. Since joining UAF, I’ve felt warmly welcomed by the Fairbanks community and have grown both professionally and personally through the people, classes, and cultural events that make UAF such a special place.
I had a great experience applying after meeting the recruitment team from the University of Alaska at a job fair hosted by Cook Inlet Tribal Council. The hiring timeline was clear and the process felt thoughtful and supportive. Working in higher education allows me to contribute to program growth, community partnerships, and leadership development. Despite challenges, I’m proud to help shape future leaders for Alaska and beyond.
