RAHI is a six-week college preparation program on the UAF Troth Yeddha campus for rural and Alaska Native Students. While here, exceptional students live in dorms, enroll in an average of 9 college credits, and participate in recreational and volunteer activities throughout the program. RAHI is both challenging and rewarding for students and staff.

RAHI Tutor Counselors are responsible for the student experience at RAHI. They will provide encouragement, support, constructive criticism, and information to our students. They will create a community that is conducive to supporting student academic success, individual involvement, and growth. In addition, Tutor Counselors will be assigned a family group of 6-10 students and will provide them with academic and personal guidance and extracurricular activities.

Tutor Counselors are expected to ensure that all activities and student conduct meet RAHI and UAF policies and expectations and report issues to RAHI staff.

Tutor Counselors work under the general direction of the RAHI Dorm Director and are required to live on campus, work up to 60 hours per week, and be available on-call. Due to the nature of this program, Tutor Counselors should expect to have little free time during the program.

Experience working with high school students in a classroom, dorm, or camp setting and peer counseling experience is recommended.

A background in working with Alaska Native and rural Alaskan students as well as minors and the policies in place to protect them is a plus.

This position works directly with students and provides an opportunity to hone organizational, community-building, communication, and mentoring skills while fostering student development, forging relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds, and making an impact on education in Alaska.
