UAF Community and Technical College has an immediate opening for a Term Assistant Professor of Fire Science. One of the unique duties of this faculty position is the summer firefighter academy offered through the fire science program each summer. This academy is an eight-week program with a paramilitary-style skills academy. Upon successful completion of the program, students will earn 12 credits towards your A.A.S. degree in fire science and will be eligible to test for Alaska Fire Fighter I certification. This full time faculty position is based in Fairbanks and provides instruction and hands-on training throughout its 9-month teaching assignment. If you have prior teaching experience in a fire academy or as a fire training officer you'll be that much closer to success in this role. Diverse fire service experience, both in terms of levels of responsibility as well as types of fire protection and fire service locations, will also be invaluable in equipping you for this role.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required for this position:
- An associate’s degree in a discipline appropriate to the position, or equivalent experience and two years of experience in the fire industry.
- Certification as NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter I and Hazardous Material Operations certification or equivalent are required.
Although not required for this position, it is preferred that the successful candidate hold or obtain certification as a Fire Instructor through the Alaska Fire Standards Council.
Position Details:
This position is located at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Community and Technical College. This is a full-time, 9-month, term faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
