The Rural Admissions Counselor will initiate and nurture relationships with high school students, counselors, teachers, and administrators, as well as tribal and other community organizations that serve and employ prospective Alaska Native and Rural Students with the intent of creating a college-going mindset and clear pathways for college enrollment.

The Admissions office and the Rural Admissions position work collaboratively across campus to recruit prospective undergraduate students and process all applications and documents for undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree students for all three campuses: Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan at the University of Alaska Southeast.

To thrive in this role, you must be comfortable with public speaking, meeting one-on-one and in small groups with students, parents, and school staff and administrators, communicating authentically, and appreciating local knowledge and culture.
This role focuses on increasing rural Alaskan and Alaska Native recruitment; therefore, this role must connect with the rural and Alaska Native communities to make a lasting connection.

Special skills/knowledge:
Demonstrated experience in working with Alaska Native and/or rural students and communities.
Extensive travel is an important component of the job.

Preferred knowledge/skills/abilities:
Knowledge of UAS academic programs, admissions, financial aid, and advanced placement.

Strong writing and presentation skills. Authentic communication skills.

Comfort with speaking in front of groups of people.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree
Alaska Driver's License

Position Details:

This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
