The Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Extension is currently accepting applications for a Forestry Program Assistant (Administrative Specialist 3) to support the Renewable Resources Extension Act or RREA program. The position is located in Fairbanks, Alaska. The RREA program provides funding for extension activities related to forestry and natural resources at land-grant universities. The goal of the funding is to carry out an extension program that will assist forest landowners and managers in making resource management decisions that are based on research findings. The duties of this position include supporting client and partner needs by being the main point of contact who addresses questions, disseminating Forestry Extension information, developing written materials to distribute, and representing the RREA program to partner agencies. Duties also include coordinating training, meeting and seminars, and coordinating with subject matter experts to develop outreach materials and deliver presentations. This position will provide general program and administrative support including grant writing to support program goals, manage and analyze program data and information for reporting, write reports, and support RREA-related OneTree Alaska activities. This is an Administrative Specialist position, but experience and/or education in Forestry, Natural Resources, Natural/Life/Environmental Sciences, or related fields will be helpful for the successful applicant to carry out the job duties. The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service is seeking a RREA Forestry Program Assistant that will act as the main point of contact for volunteers, advisory committee members and other partner agencies for the RREA program and other IANRE forestry programs. The position will provide essential support in the preparation and development of training, outreach, and educational materials, provide administrative assistance with program activities, interact with University researchers, fiscal and proposal development offices and represent Extension forestry and forestry-related research at events throughout the state.
The RREA Forestry Program provides resources and tools for Alaskan forest landowners and managers, as well as the general public to raise awareness of healthy ecosystems, enhance economic development benefits and support sustainable management of Alaska’s forest resources. The RREA Program Assistant plays a pivotal role in identifying community needs, delivering program objectives, supporting proposal preparation and facilitating grant processing and submission, as well as collecting and consolidating required statistical data and drafting report narratives to validate program outcomes.
We are seeking an individual with exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strong ability to multitask effectively. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with the capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse team environment. Adaptability, critical thinking, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential traits for success in this dynamic role. Previous experience in continuing/community and/or university settings, website content management and Forestry/Natural or Environmental Sciences or a related field would be advantageous.
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years college coursework and three years progressively responsible experience related to the program specialty, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred: Associate’s degree and three years progressively responsible experience related to the program specialty, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a part-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
