Lead and inspire a team while helping rural and Alaska Native high school students transition to college life as the Dorm Director for Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI). This critical leadership role offers a dynamic opportunity to oversee a team of dorm staff, manage a busy residence hall, and contribute to the success of the summer program. RAHI is a unique six-week college prep program at UAF that helps rural and Alaska Native students explore higher education, earn college credits, and participate in enriching activities. As RAHI’s Dorm Director, you will play an essential role in creating a positive and safe environment for RAHI students. You will manage a team of 5-15 dorm staff, deliver training aligned with RAHI and UAF policies, and ensure smooth daily operations. Your responsibilities will include organizing student activities, mentoring students, and coordinating dorm logistics like room assignments and safety procedures. You will also be involved in conflict resolution, discipline, and maintaining communication between staff and the RAHI Office. This leadership position allows you to make a meaningful impact on students' college readiness while honing your skills in management, event coordination, and team leadership.
To thrive as RAHI’s Dorm Director, you should have strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage a diverse team and foster a supportive and collaborative work environment. You should be well-versed in minor protection and safety procedures, with a deep understanding of Alaska Native and rural Alaskan student cultures to create an inclusive and supportive space. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, with excellent communication skills to keep staff informed and ensure the smooth running of the dorm. You should have experience in conflict resolution, event coordination, and maintaining safety standards. The RAHI Dorm Director works under the general direction of the RAHI Program Manager and isrequired to live on campus, work up to 60 hours per week, and be available on-call. Due to the nature of this program, the successful candidate should expect to have little free time during the program.
Minimum Qualifications:
Driver’s license and ability to demonstrate 3 years of clean driving record with no felony arrest or felony conviction
High School graduate or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Must be 21 or older to apply
Minimum of 30 university credits successfully completed
Position Details:
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, AK. This is a full-time, exempt temporary position. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
