Natural Sciences Department Student Assistant

The Science Department at Mat-Su College is seeking a student assistant for the 2024-2025 Academic Year who is self-motivated, reliable, and able to accomplish assigned tasks to completion in a timely manner. The primary role of this position will be to oversee and monitor open labs for Human Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology students. You must be able to work one evening during the week. Must be 18 years or older.

To thrive in this role, the student should have the ability to enforce laboratory safety of students during open labs; to work and accomplish assigned tasks with minimal to no supervision; & willingness to support the natural sciences faculty in grading. Knowledge of science laboratory safety is a key component to succeed in this position.
Communication with supervisor on work completed and being responsive to emails and phone calls in a timely fashion is necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Student employee positions require maintaining a minimum enrollment of 6 credits or more within the University of Alaska System and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Student must be able to provide proof of having taken at least 1 class in Biology or Chemistry (completion of BIOL A111 or A112 preferred) & must be 18 years or older to be eligible for this position.

Position Details:

This is a part-time, temporary student employee position, located at the Mat-Su College in Palmer, Alaska with a starting pay of $13.03 hourly. Hours are limited to 20 per week maximum during instructional periods of the academic year with the flexibility of up to 40 per week during summer or non-instructional periods.

This is a pooled position, open until filled.
