Kenai Peninsula College in Soldotna is seeking a skilled and motivated IT Support Specialist to join our team, providing essential support in the areas of classroom A/V, general technology, user support, and core infrastructure. This position plays a key role in designing, deploying, and maintaining classroom audiovisual systems, supporting blended and distance learning environments, and troubleshooting A/V issues across campus. In addition to A/V responsibilities, the role includes managing the full lifecycle of campus hardware, maintaining IT inventory, configuring and deploying computers using enterprise tools such as SCCM, and administering software licensing and patch management.

The IT Support Specialist will also offer general user support, assisting students, faculty, and staff with hardware, software, and university services, while maintaining accurate records of service requests. Infrastructure duties include deploying and maintaining network systems, such as switches, VLANs, subnets, phones, and associated cabling, along with documenting network configurations and managing network hardware inventory.

The ideal candidate is a resourceful, tech-savvy individual with a strong foundation in IT and AV systems and a genuine interest in supporting educational environments. They possess advanced technical knowledge and can confidently troubleshoot complex issues related to hardware, software, and networking. Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—are essential, as is a commitment to providing outstanding customer service across a diverse campus community. This person is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment. They work well independently but also thrive in collaborative team settings. A demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies is key, as is proficiency in deploying, maintaining, and supporting AV systems, desktop computing equipment, and network infrastructure. The candidate should also be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred experience includes working in academic environments, supporting distance education platforms, using Extron AV systems, and delivering front-line technical support in a help desk setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related field) and 2 years experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Position Details:

This position is located on the Kenai Peninsula College campus in Soldotna. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78 starting at $25.11 per hour, based on education and experience.
