Instructional Design & Accessibility Support Specialist

Kenai Peninsula College in Soldotna, Alaska, invites applications for the position of Instructional Design & Accessibility Support Specialist.

In this position, you will focus on enhancing the accessibility of our digital and educational resources while providing general instructional design support. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with faculty to design and remediate digital content to align with WCAG 2.1 AA standards, troubleshooting accessibility issues in courses within our Learning Management System (LMS), and developing and delivering training on digital accessibility practices. Additionally, you will use tools like JAWS or NVDA and apply basic HTML, CSS, and ARIA knowledge to assess and improve content accessibility. The role requires providing both in-person and remote support for instructional technology and addressing various instructional design needs. We welcome applicants who may not currently have all the specific experience but possess relevant skills and a strong willingness to learn and grow in the role.

The ideal candidate will have experience providing training and general instructional design support alongside a solid understanding of digital accessibility technologies. Familiarity with tools like NVDA and basic HTML is beneficial but not required. Strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking abilities, and a willingness to advocate for accessibility and promote inclusive practices is a must.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one year relevant experience in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Kenai Peninsula College Campus in Soldotna, Alaska. This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78 starting at $25.11, based on education and experience.
