UAS IT Services is a fast-paced and fun team that serves the needs of a dynamic and growing university campus. The role of Information Systems Specialist requires a professional capable of managing and enhancing our software systems, hardware infrastructure, and security protocols. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both IT systems management and information security, with the ability to coordinate and implement complex technical projects.

Demonstrates professional knowledge/expertise in functional area(s) for the individual position, including planning, analysis, programming, database administration, and security. Knowledge/expertise is commensurate with assigned level.

Must demonstrate technical skills/knowledge in areas of enterprise server virtualization, storage technologies, performance tuning, security administration, programming for a production environment, relational databases, and web server administration.

Applicant requires strong technical knowledge of Windows server including associated services and Active Directory, enterprise server virtualization and storage, backup technologies and processes.

Software and Systems Management:

  • Analyze, document, install, develop, and manage software including automated systems, applications, and interfaces.
  • Prepare business requirements and design specifications according to published standards and methodologies.

Hardware and Operating Systems Management:

  • Oversee and manage including recommend, install, upgrade, configure and troubleshoot enterprise hardware, software, and operating systems.
  • Support and manage VMWare ESX environments.

Information Security:

  • Serve as the Information Security Officer and regional security subject matter expert.
  • Monitor and respond to advisories and security incidents.
  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and regulate security measures to safeguard information resources.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information system or related field. Ten years of directly applicable professional experience may substitute for the degree.

This position requires 3-5 years of experience with the following background:

*Managing enterprise server environment for a small-medium size organization.

*Systems analysis, design and development experience.

*Managing enterprise Windows servers and services; Active Directory management.

*Professional programming experience in C, C++, PHP or Perl.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Southeast campus in Juneau. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
