The University of Alaska seeks an Identity and Integration Developer to join our Enterprise Applications team, where you will help lead efforts for coordination of security and authorization requests, and help the team be highly capable on current integration methods. On this team, you would work among a diverse set of professionals who are passionate about enabling life-changing, cost-efficient postsecondary education that adapts to the learning needs of Alaskans and pioneering visitors from around the globe.

Come help lead our security coordinators and related teams toward best practices in granting and managing access to our Ellucian Banner instances and beyond. As our Identity and Integration Developer, you can! In this position you will work closely with a team of security coordinators representing data stewards from the team that supports all aspects of the Banner system and related products. This role is three parts doer, one part mentor, one part liaison, and the two parts researcher. In this position you will support security coordinators and your team, ensuring appropriate access is granted internally, and granting processes are refined to reach best practices. You would be expected to routinely meet with security coordinators to help them be successful in their positions. You will also be responsible for understanding current practices for integration into the Banner and be able to help others follow them. You will also be expected to help us get to a better place in on-boarding, off-boarding, and some of the overall identity and access management initiatives the University of Alaska is pursuing. Some of these efforts are underway already and waiting for you to come on board to help achieve them. Limited on-call and weekend work is expected for this position.

Your teammates have a strong and varied technical knowledge and are always happy to help move you forward. We strive to keep a great work/life balance for the team and try to ensure that you can have guilt-free time away when meaningful events are happening in your life. The team cares about the organization's success and will help support your role in this.

To thrive in this role you should enjoy collaborating with others, be able to organize and prioritize multiple work streams, and must be driven to rise above any circumstances related to the work, taking ownership to get to an end goal by the target date. The work hours are somewhat flexible but everyone on the team is expected to work 8 hours with a break during University of Alaska (UA) business hours Monday through Friday ranging between the times 7am and 6pm.

We have a preference for candidates to be strongly connected to the university and state of Alaska, so that they can participate and experience everything that the state and university have to offer. Related to this, the university offers a unique incentive for encouraging you to pursue further education with a tuition waiver. Courses that you use this toward that are highly aligned with your position can also be completed during your working day. This is a great opportunity to advance your career and life goals while balancing that with work demands.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelors in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related field) or equivalent experience in software development, in a large and complex systems environment. Our focus on a degree in computer science or information technology is in the context of having sufficient information and experience in developing, running, or managing complex environments. Generally these two degree paths will require that scholars learn how to write software and in many cases with the focus of that software is either on-demand self-service or for general automations that this group routinely facilitates. We prefer writing software to achieve the action over doing repetitive actions by hand.

3 to 5 years experience in a range of software engineering projects and/or assignments with progressive responsibility. This is intended to mean you have experience writing software and people trusted you more over time. If you have been doing that at least 3 years, we’d expect you to be a good fit.

1 to 2 years experience supporting identity and access management. In this context, our ideal person would have this experience in supporting a person in our Ellucian Banner product named Banner Access Management and be very familiar with granting access using these current models. We would be interested in anyone who has broader understanding of these concepts, as they would likely find it easy to understand the product model and can look for ways to use best practices and how we can make a positive impact on the rest of the organization.
