The University Police Department seeks a dedicated and experienced Emergency Dispatcher to join our team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our campus community by providing communication support to law enforcement officers and other emergency personnel. The ideal candidate will have at least 12 months of dispatching experience, excellent multitasking abilities, and a solid commitment to public safety.
As a part of our department, you will be responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinating response efforts, and utilizing state-of-the-art dispatch systems to ensure effective communication. To thrive in this role, you should have at least 12 months of experience in police or emergency dispatching, with demonstrated proficiency in managing high-pressure situations. Your experience and knowledge will include: Experience with call-taking in a fast-paced environment, showcasing strong multitasking and prioritization skills; Familiarity with the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) or similar systems, ensuring effective handling of sensitive law enforcement data; Completion of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) training courses, reflecting a solid understanding of emergency response protocols and procedures; Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain calm, professional, and effective during critical incidents. The successful candidate must be able to work 10-12 hour shifts as assigned and be able to pass a background investigation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Twelve months (two years preferred) of relevant emergency dispatching experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The position requires appropriate security clearance and certifications (e.g., APSIN certification, APCO, Emergency Medical Dispatcher, Police, NCIC, NLETS).
*High school graduation or GED.
*Successfully completed departmental emergency dispatcher training program and APCO *Telecommunicator 1 course.
*Sixteen hours of ARMS or APSIN training.
*Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) training.
*Successfully completed Communications Training Officer (CTO) course.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
