The Graduate School fosters the creativity and productivity of graduate students as they pursue academic and research excellence at UAF. We provide oversight of graduate programs, academic policies, and administrative processes, ensuring a supportive environment for student success. Our comprehensive support includes professional development and training opportunities, orientation sessions, wellness and social events, scholarships and fellowships, and active engagement through our Graduate Student Advisory Board. We collaborate closely with departments and programs to monitor student progress and are always available to address questions or concerns.

The Director of the Graduate School leads and manages the overall operations of graduate education, providing strategic direction and support for all graduate programs.

To excel in this role, you must demonstrate strong leadership and operational oversight, with a focus on recruitment, admissions, and collaboration across interdisciplinary programs. Support colleges and institutions in improving student retention, streamlining processes, and increasing timely graduation rates, all in alignment with the university’s pursuit of R1 status. Prioritize graduate student success through strategic enrollment management and targeted support initiatives. Actively seek funding opportunities to strengthen operations and create impactful experiences that enhance the overall graduate student journey.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in relevant field and five years progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred: Experience that demonstrates progressively increasing supervisory/administrative responsibilities. Experience with enrollment management in a higher education institute that serves graduate students.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 83, based on education and experience.
