The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is currently seeking a dynamic and skilled individual to assume the role of Director of Facilities Planning and Construction (FP&C). This position entails responsibility for the planning, budgeting, contract management, and construction of professionally designed buildings and facilities across the UAA campus as well as its extended community campuses, which include Kenai Peninsula College (along with Kachemak Bay Campus), Kodiak College, Matanuska-Susitna College, and Prince William Sound College.
UAA spans over 375 acres and comprises 99 buildings with a total of 3.6 million gross square feet of building space. The primary objective of FP&C is to ensure that new constructions, major renovations, and alterations are meticulously designed to align with the university's mission, and that physical developments meet the academic program requirements in support of all UAA campuses.

The Director of Facilities Planning & Construction is responsible for overseeing the planning, design, construction, renovation, and maintenance of campus facilities on behalf of the University of Alaska Anchorage Facilities and Campus Services. This role ensures that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The Director will lead a team of professionals and collaborate with various stakeholders to support the institution's strategic goals and enhance the campus environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and supervision to the Facilities Planning & Construction team.
Maintain fiscal control of department and capital funds.
Develop and apply design standards, ensuring compliance with master plan and regent policy.
Coordinate work activities with campus departments, contractors, and external agencies.
Manage capital, deferred maintenance, and contracted maintenance programs.
Extensive knowledge of project programming, project scheduling, educational/research facilities design, engineering, or architectural principles, building and life safety, codes, regulations, and statutes, contract law, construction specifications, and technology. Thorough understanding of project administration and effective communication strategies to convey program needs, facilitate collaboration, and present briefings to diverse audiences, including senior administration and community members. Extensive knowledge of A/E contracting procedures for a public entity and the ability to critically analyze complex procurement and contracting systems.
Capable of implementing procurement authority in compliance with State Statutes, UA policy, and regulations while demonstrating creative and critical thinking to address challenges and optimize systems for efficiency. Proficient in engineering and architectural standards and practices, general and specific construction methods, and intercultural fluency to navigate diverse professional and community settings effectively. Demonstrated personal, professional, and community responsibility in coordinating staff, managing multimillion-dollar construction programs, and fostering strategic facilities planning. Leadership experience includes being accountable and responsible for managing professional and technical staff, participating in strategic and facilities planning, and delivering high-quality results while promoting collaboration within teams.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in architecture, engineering, construction management or similar field is required. Advanced Degree and/or Professional Registration, or equivalent experience is also required.
Candidates must possess extensive progressive work experience in contract management, project management, financial management, and staff management. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in private or public industry related to planning, architecture, project/construction management, and construction delivery is essential. Additionally, applicants should have at least five (5) years of
management experience, overseeing professional, technical, and administrative staff. The ability to effectively communicate program needs and present briefings to senior administration and community members is required.
A valid Alaska Driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteira is required.
Preferred additional experience includes construction procurement within State or Federal systems and experience in an educational facilities environment.
Preferred Certifications: APPA Certified Education Facilities Professional; SCUP Planning Institute and /or Project Management Professional
Position Details:
This position is located on the UAA Main campus in Anchorage, and flexible on-site work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 84, based on education and experience.
