The Alaska Center for Rural Health & Health Workforce is seeking a talented and motivated Communication Coordinator to join our team and help us enhance our internal and external communications.

Our center is a dynamic program within UAA's College of Health, dedicated to providing continuing education opportunities to Alaska's Health Workforce, Pipeline Programs to increase K-12 interest in health careers, and supporting current health care students through our scholar programs.

The Alaska Center for Rural Health and Health Workforce is a center within the College of Health that primarily manages Alaska's Area Health Education Centers (AHECs) program and also delivers K-12 pipeline programing to to expose students to primary care delivery in rural and/or underserved settings, as well as professional development opportunities to health care professionals across the state.
As a Communication Coordinator, you will play a key role in managing and executing our communication strategies. You will work closely with various teams to ensure clear, consistent, and effective messaging across all channels. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills and a knack for eye catching graphics.

To thrive in this role a successful candidate should:

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to craft clear, engaging, and error-free content for various platforms and audiences. Demonstrate proficiency in articulating ideas clearly, and active listening skills to understand and address communication needs.
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills to effectively handle multiple tasks and deadlines while showing attention to detail to avoid errors and maintain consistency without sacrificing quality.
  • Be proficient in digital tools including: MS Office Suite, Website CMS platforms (e.g. OU Campus, Drupal, Wordpress, etc.), Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, In Design and Photoshop, and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedln.
  • Interpersonal skills that help develop strong professional relationships with colleagues across departments to ensure consistent messaging and smooth execution of communication plans. Collaborative mindsight that allows you to work effectively with multiple teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field and two years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
