The Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) is seeking an energetic, board-certified (ACVIM, ECVIM or equivalent) Small Animal Veterinary Internal Medicine specialist with a passion for teaching to join us as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Small Animal Medicine. This faculty appointment will focus on teaching first- and second-year DVM students in our small program (14 students per cohort), as well as providing university service. Opportunities for collaborative research exist both within UAF as well as with our partner, Colorado State University. We are looking for a collegial colleague to share their expertise in our organ-systems-based curriculum, which incorporates team-based learning, traditional didactic lectures, and ample opportunities for hands-on practice of clinical skills.

As faculty you would be joining a collegial and diverse group of colleagues in curriculum development and instruction of a small cohort of first and second-year veterinary students. The UAF Department of Veterinary Medicine does not have a teaching hospital or conventional clinical obligations. The primary role of this position is teaching and curriculum development. The applicant will take a leadership role for course material in internal medicine, with potential involvement in other topics as your interests dictate. This faculty appointment will focus on teaching and university service but may include research if interests and qualifications align. Our faculty contribute to research topics such as infectious disease surveillance, One Health, sled dog medicine, and wildlife toxicology. Opportunities to mentor and advise graduate students are also available. New faculty in the Department of Veterinary Medicine will join a small teaching team that works closely with faculty at Colorado State University to deliver our 2+2 DVM curriculum. The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring veterinary students, extensive veterinary clinical experience, and advanced training in small animal internal medicine.

To thrive in this role you must be enthusiastic about the education of students, be able to collaborate with colleagues, and be willing to contribute to curriculum development. A commitment to delivering a high quality educational experience is essential. A D.V.M. (or equivalent) and board certification (or equivalent) in small animal internal medicine is required. You must be comfortable providing lab sessions with live animals, simulators, and cadaver material. The ideal candidate would have clinical experience, teaching experience, and enthusiasm for joining a small team and living in the small community of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires the possession of a DVM degree (or equivalent international degree), DACVIM-SAIM certification or equivalent, AND Clinical experience (general clinical practice or specialist practice are acceptable) are required.
Teaching experience (lecturing, working with veterinary students, instructing in some form) is highly desired.
Licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Alaska is highly desired, but not required.

Position Details:
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha’ campus in Fairbanks, AK. This is a full-time, 9-month base appointment, FLSA exempt faculty position complete with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Finalists invited to on-campus interview/visits will be required to give a teaching presentation and a research presentation (if applicable) during their visit. Feedback from faculty, staff and students will be considered.
