The University of Alaska (UAA) Aviation Technology Division invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate level for Aviation Maintenance Technology. As a tenure-track faculty in the Aviation Technology Division you will have an opportunity to teach an array of courses within your discipline as well courses in the Aviation Management Bachelor of Science degree program. This position is responsible for teaching and service in addressing aviation issues in the State of Alaska in training the next generation of technicians and aviation professionals. You will work independently and collaboratively with colleagues to prepare graduates to enter the workforce within an exacting curriculum adhering to Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 147.

The Aviation Technology Division has educated thousands of aviation industry professionals and offers Associate of Applied Science degrees in Professional Pilot, Aviation Maintenance Technology, and Air Traffic Control in addition to a Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management. The division’s maintenance training center and all of the aviation classes are located on Merrill Field, one of the busiest General Aviation airports in the nation, boosting 144,892 flight operations.

As an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Aviation Technology Division you will teach undergraduate courses in an FAA-approved Part 147 aviation maintenance technology program including aviation management and be expected to contribute to the development and expansion of the aviation programs.

To thrive in this role, candidates must have experience working with diverse students, supporting student retention, and assisting students in achieving academic and professional success. Additionally, it is essential that faculty have the necessary aviation experience and credentials required for the position. Individuals who are self-motivated, safety conscious, student-centered, and believe in excellence through collaboration, adaptability, and creativity will flourish within UAA's Aviation Technology Division.

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor: Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology/Management; Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering/Engineering Technology/Technology; Career and Technical/Vocational Education; or equivalent.

Associate Professor: Master’s Degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology/Management; Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering/Engineering Technology/Technology; Career and Technical/Vocational Education; or equivalent.

Both Assistant and Associate Professor: Minimum 2 years full-time equivalent teaching OR a combination of 1 year full-time equivalent teaching plus 2 years of full-time equivalent of maintaining type certified aircraft is required.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Aviation Technology Complex at Merrill Field Airport, approximately 2 miles north of UAA's main campus, in Anchorage, AK. Flexible in-person and online teaching schedules may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, 9-month base, tenure-track faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
