The Applied Environmental Research Center (AERC) at the University of Alaska Anchorage supports high-level environmental consultancy and research by bridging the expertise of the University of Alaska with industry needs. The work involves data collection and entry, utilizing computerized spreadsheets and databases to manage and analyze information. Key responsibilities include manipulating data to produce charts and graphs, interpreting trends, and identifying irregularities for accurate reporting.

The role also requires the ability to work in remote and challenging conditions, adhering to field safety procedures, and performing data entry in systems like ArcGIS. Additionally, staff provide essential field camp maintenance and logistical support, as well as contributing to the creation of tables, graphs, and charts to effectively present data. Maintaining accurate records is a vital aspect of the work to ensure data integrity and proper documentation.

To thrive in this role, the successful candidate should be eager to take on a leadership position that involves both conducting field samples and analysis, as well as managing administrative responsibilities. The position offers a unique balance of seasonal fieldwork, typically during the summer months, where the candidate will be out in the field almost daily, and office tasks, such as report writing and data organization, during the winter months. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for both the outdoors and office work, enjoying the variety that comes with switching between hands-on, outdoor activities and focused, detail-oriented office duties. In addition, the role requires a team-oriented mindset, as effective collaboration and communication with colleagues are essential for success. If you thrive in both independent and team settings, enjoy working outdoors, and find satisfaction in organizing and managing office tasks, this is the perfect opportunity.
