The Certified Aircraft Maintenance Technician – Level 1 is responsible for performing the duties of a FAA certificated Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic. Tests, trouble shoots, removes, installs, aligns, and adjusts the oil, fuel, hydraulic, pneumatic, power plant, and electrical systems of aircraft. Inspects, installs, replaces, and repairs airframes, engines, propellers, appliances and other components as necessary. Troubleshoots, checks, and repairs aircraft system(s) through connecting, adjusting, and operating test equipment. Conducts ground functional tests of aircraft, aircraft systems, aircraft engines, avionics, and installed accessories. Traces and corrects electrical problems in various aircraft systems. Performs all phases of aircraft structural repair and alteration; including sheet metal structure, wood structure, steel tubing structure, and composite structure.
Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively and possess a high level of work, systems and aviation infrastructure related knowledge and technical skill. Must be familiar with Aircraft maintenance publications; Code of Federal Regulation Title 14 (FAR’s), aircraft manufacturer maintenance documents, airworthiness directives, advisory circulars, orders, bulletins, forms, and aircraft records.

• forming and riveting sheet metal
• making fine adjustments (e.g., timing, synchronization, and control settings)
• make decisions and set and balance priorities
• diagnosis of equipment failure and proper repair
• use of precision tools and diagnostic equipment
• adapt and modify procedures, operations or processes required to complete the work
• work in absence of available or applicable guidelines
• ensure adherence to work schedules, quality standards, safety and security rules
• maintaining clean and safe work and tool area / work in an efficient manner
• the vocabulary needed to read and interpret technical manuals and regulations

• retrieve information from computer files or shop manuals
• retrieve, read and apply O.S.H.A. guidelines
• retrieve, read and apply information from technical manuals, computers and microfiche

• perform work accurately, safely, thoroughly and efficiently
Possess a valid FAA Mechanic certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
Salary Information:This is a part-time, temporary staff position. New hires will be placed on the UA temporary salary schedule, Grade 78.
