Are you passionate about creating seamless travel experiences that support education, discovery, and global impact? Join our dynamic team as a Travel Coordinator, where every itinerary you craft helps students, faculty, and staff pursue knowledge, build partnerships, and represent our institution around the world. This is more than booking flights—it’s about enabling life-changing journeys with precision, care, and purpose. You’ll be the expert behind the scenes, coordinating complex travel logistics with efficiency and heart. Whether it’s arranging conference travel or supporting field research, your work will ensure that every traveler feels prepared, safe, and supported—no matter how far they go.
Interesting Challenges & Projects; No two days are alike. Coordinators help travelers with trip planning, airfare, lodging, and expense reporting, while also troubleshooting challenges like unused ticket credits or travel disruptions during high-demand periods (for example, limited flights or car rentals). These projects require creativity, proactive problem-solving, and clear communication with both travelers and vendors.
The Travel Office values teamwork, professional growth, and service excellence. With a culture that is welcoming, authentic, and rooted in Alaskan pride—many team members balance their professional roles with a love for outdoor life, family, and the unique opportunities that living in Alaska offers. While not tied to awards, our “accolades” come in the form of strong relationships with the UAF community, efficient service, and being trusted experts across campus.
Joining the TCSO as a Travel Coordinator means stepping into a dynamic, supportive role where you’ll:
• Be the go-to expert for faculty, staff, and student travelers
• Solve real-world travel challenges every day
• Gain exposure to university-wide operations and compliance work
• Build skills with modern travel systems and customer service
• Grow professionally within a service-focused environment
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will bring a positive, customer-focused attitude and strong organizational and time management skills. The ability to remain productive and accurate while managing shifting priorities and time-sensitive deadlines is essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, even amidst frequent interruptions. A strong background in the travel industry is highly valued, particularly with advanced knowledge of travel policies, rules, and regulations, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex travel-related issues. Proficiency in tools such as Concur, Banner, database systems, Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows is preferred, along with strong internet research skills. Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment are also vital. Experience within higher education, particularly with interpreting university policies and procedures, is highly desirable.
