The Department of Art, a NASAD accredited institution, is comprised of six full time faculty and ten adjunct faculty whose diverse artistic pursuits provide a wide range of educational opportunities for students. The Department has 118 art majors who are pursuing BA and BFA degrees in six areas of study. We also offer a one year Occupational Endorsement Certificate in Graphic Design and a Minor in Art. Our mission is to prepare and empower students to use their creative abilities to make a difference in our community. A comprehensive multi-studio approach encourages innovative thinking, strengthens creativity and technical ability and develops a broad knowledge of historic and contemporary art and design.

The Department of Art within the University of Alaska Anchorage is inviting applications for a full- time bipartite term position in Graphic Design. This position would entail developing and teaching in the Communication Design program that incorporates the studio areas of graphic design, illustration and photography. A successful candidate will be mentoring students in the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Art Programs as well as the one year Occupational Endorsement Certificate in Graphic Design. We are especially interested in hearing from candidates that demonstrate the ability to work in an interdisciplinary context.

Teaching will include undergraduate graphic design, typography, computer art and foundation courses in multiple modalities including in-person, hybrid, and online. A candidate should have the ability to teach a wide range of historical and contemporary content as well as emerging theories and methodologies related to design. We are seeking a candidate that is committed to the mentoring students, encouraging them to develop critical and visual thinking that will prepare them for careers in the design field.

The applicants creative work should be vibrant, rich and reflective of contemporary design practices.
We are looking for a designer/artist whose work bridges between the field of graphic design and fine arts, showing experience in more than one area of creative expression. A successful applicant will have a track record of excellence in professional and scholarly achievement.

This position requires service to the Department of Art, University of Alaska Anchorage and the community. We are interested in a candidate that will foster collaboration with other areas within the University and work with business partners in the Anchorage community in order to benefit the educational experience of our students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters of Fine Arts Degree in either/or Visual Art and Graphic Design, or equivalent experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a full-time, 9-month, term-funded, non-tenure track, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Faculty salaries are based on a variety of factors, including education and experience.
