The Alaska Native Studies Program at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Instructor or Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester and participate in service activities. The appointment has a start date of August, 2024 for up to two academic years.

The Department seeks a candidate dedicated to equity and diversity of the campus community. This individual will integrate and expand the mission of Alaska Native Studies Program at UAA and support the minor and the AA degree.

Responsibilities include teaching multiple sections of Alaska Native Perspectives each year and upper division courses in the policy track of the Alaska Native Studies minor and advising students in the minor and OEC. The Alaska Native Studies is part of the College of Arts and Sciences which is the largest academic unit in the state. Students graduating with an associate degree or a baccalaureate degree from UAA are required to have both a diversity and inclusion course and an Alaska Native themed course. Anchorage has some of the most diverse schools in the nation and top two most diverse census tracts. While the student body does not match the diversity of the community, nearly half of UAA students are first generation. Because faculty and student success are inextricably linked the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence offers myriad training for faculty to develop their skills.

To thrive in this role the applicant should have a passion for teaching Alaska Native/Indigenous studies, a commitment to equity in education and experience working with a wide range of students.
