The School of Allied Health in the College of Health at the University of Alaska Anchorage, is seeking a full-time, term faculty/program director to coordinate the surgical technology program and teach surgical technology and prerequisites courses in the School of Allied Health.

This position involves didactic and clinical teaching in a surgical technology program, emphasizing a commitment to student-centered learning and teaching excellence. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work effectively in diverse, multicultural environments and have strong knowledge of the current surgical technology scope of practice. Required skills include effective communication, computer literacy, and familiarity with contemporary nursing practices and surgical technology education. Alignment with the College of Health mission and the ability to engage with a diverse student and staff population are essential.

To thrive in this role, candidates need significant recent experience in surgical technology, either as an operating room scrub or instructor, and substantial teaching experience focused on student-centered learning and engagement. Proficiency in instructional technologies, effective communication, and experience with student evaluation and outcomes assessment are essential. Preferred qualifications include expertise in curriculum development, program management, accreditation processes, and knowledge of Alaska's surgical technology training needs. The ability to lead or work within a diverse, multicultural workforce is also critical.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Current NCCA-approved credentials in surgical technology (CST).

  • Significant experience in Surgical Technology, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.
  • Substantial teaching experience in the Surgical Technology discipline with a commitment to student-centered learning, student engagement, and teaching excellence. Documented evidence of successful use of instructional technologies and ability to communicate effectively as a teacher.
  • Experience leading or working in a diverse workforce in a multi-cultural setting.
  • Experience in student evaluation and outcomes assessment.

    Preferred Education:
    Master degree in related field.
    NBSTSA preferred, certification from NCCT will be considered.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Goose Lake Campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a full-time, term funded, 9-month faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
