Summary:

The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) School of School of Career Education (CE) seeks a professional to join our team as an Assistant Professor of Health Sciences, leading and coordinating the CNA course / program at the Juneau campus. Located in downtown Juneau at the Technical Education Center (TEC), the CE serves approximately 500 students each semester. The school offers a variety of programs including associate degrees, undergraduate certificates, occupational endorsements, and workforce credentials in fields such as Law Enforcement, Applied Fisheries, Health Sciences, Construction Technology, Power Technology, Welding, Mining, and Maritime. This position offers an exciting opportunity to reshape the CNA course and program making a meaningful impact on students and the community.

As the Assistant Professor of Health Sciences, you will be responsible for coordinating, leading, and ensuring successful offerings of a nine credit CNA course that provides students the opportunity to sit for the CNA exam. The ideal candidate is organized and student-focused, providing opportunities for students to gain not only clinical skills but service skills as they work toward a certification to serve the health industry in Alaska.

Key responsibilities involve managing the CNA application process to ensure students have everything needed to start the courses each semester and teaching courses through to the successful passing of the course. Assisting students with clinical placement, tutoring, and guidance to ensure they have the tools they need to succeed. The position will work to develop and sustain active partnerships with industry, local schools, and community organizations.

Additionally, the position works closely with other University of Alaska health sciences programs and collaborates across community campuses and Career Education schools within the system to foster collaboration and alignment across programs. Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate must satisfy the following requirements:
1. Meet Alaska Board of Nursing requirements for teaching Certified Nurse Aide courses, to include:
a. Be either a registered nurse or practical nurse licensed under AS 08.68 and have either completed a course in teaching adults or obtained experience in teaching adults or supervising nurse aides; and
b. Have at least two years of nursing experience, including at least one year of experience in the
provision of long-term care facility services.
2. Ability to develop skills required to teach a variety of survey-level health sciences courses

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Southeast campus in Juneau. This is a term-funded, full-time, exempt faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
