The Department of Early Learning and Teaching invites applications for a full-time, term appointment in Early Childhood Education at the rank of Term Assistant Professor. The Early Childhood program within the department offers three programs, an Occupational Endorsement Certificate in Infant and Toddler Development, an Associate of Applied Science degree (NAEYC - accredited), and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education (AK DEED-approved).

The Early Childhood program at UAA blends theory and practice in the preparation of early childhood educators who can deliver quality care and education for young children from birth through age eight. The Early Childhood program offers three outcomes, an Occupational Endorsement Certificate in Infant and Toddler Development, an Associate of Applied Science degree (NAEYC-accredited), and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education that may include licensure to teach up through third grade.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced professional with a strong background in early childhood and early learning settings, including school districts, agencies, and medical facilities. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in early childhood or elementary leadership and possess the ability to mentor preservice teachers in field-based clinical experiences. Familiarity with NAEYC professional standards and/or CAEP accreditation is essential.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to collaborate with colleagues to enhance scholarship, improve program quality, and support student success. They will be adept at delivering high-quality instruction through distance learning technologies, facilitating engaging, interactive, and student-centered instruction for adult learners.

We are looking for someone who excels in delivering academic programs, engaging in meaningful program evaluation, and advancing scholarship through grant writing, curriculum development, and professional writing. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working with Indigenous people and diverse learners, is required. Strong written and oral communication skills are a must.

To thrive in this roll the potential candidate will have previous experience serving as an early childhood educator in a birth-five setting such as preschool or Headstart and/or P-3rd grade public school setting.

The ability to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate will have 1) Graduate degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field; 2) At least five (5) years of successful experience as an early educator.

Position Details:

This position is located on the on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a full-time, 9-month, term-funded,  faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package, with an expected start date in August 2025. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, faculty time off (FTO), 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. Faculty salaries are based on a variety of factors, including education and experience.
