The School of Education is seeking a Term Assistant Professor in Counseling Education (Clinical Mental Health and/or School Counseling) for the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Our Term Assistant Professor of Counseling position involves teaching graduate courses in counselor education with the ability to address the training needs of graduate students in our program’s clinical mental health and school counseling tracks.  The successful applicant will be able to articulate and demonstrate values aligning with a student-centered institution.  Additionally, this position requires the ability to supervise practicum and internship students.  In addition, the successful applicants will have the skills necessary for advising graduate students, serving on graduate student research committees, participating in committee work that relates to the Counseling Program, School of Education, and the University. 

Successful applicants will have:

  • knowledge of and commitment to a CACREP-accredited Counseling M.Ed. Program with a Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling tracks;

  • potential for excellence in instruction, academic/career advising, and clinical supervision; and

  • the ability to use technology to deliver synchronous and asynchronous, high-quality learning experiences in live and virtual classroom environments that combine local and distance learners.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate from a Counselor Education Program with an emphasis in clinical mental health and/or school counseling by August 10, 2024.

Experience as a clinical mental health provider and/or school counselor.

Record of university teaching experience.

Counseling service delivery experience with diverse populations.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Certified School Counselor or eligible for Alaska school counseling certification, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
or eligible for Alaska LPC, National Certified Counselor (NCC), Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and/or possess other counseling credentials.

Experience developing and teaching online courses and/or integrating technology into courses.

Successful clinical supervision experience.

Experience in clinical mental health, school counseling, and/or service delivery with Indigenous populations.  

Educational experiences emphasizing Indigenous cultures and related pedagogies.

Specific experience with Alaska Native populations is preferred.

Responsibilities

This position requires teaching graduate courses in counselor education. In addition, responsibilities include advising graduate students; providing program, department, and university service; and participating in faculty governance.

1.      cover letter specific to this position describing how the candidate's educational background and professional experience meet the required and preferred qualifications for the position, including achievements and future plans;

2.      curriculum vitae;

3.      transcripts showing highest degree earned (unofficial transcripts may be submitted; official transcripts will be required prior to an offer); and

4.      two letters from professional references written in the last two years.

Minimum Qualifications:

-Earned doctorate from a Counselor Education Program with an emphasis in clinical mental health and/or school counseling by August 10, 2024.
-Experience as a clinical mental health provider and/or school counselor.
-Record of university teaching experience.
-Counseling service delivery experience with diverse populations.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, exempt faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
