UAF's Community and Technical College is looking for the right person to serve as the first Term Assistant Professor of American Sign Language. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable of Deaf culture and be fluent in American Sign Language. They will be responsible for building, coordinating and managing the American Sign Language program here at UAF CTC. American Sign Language (ASL) is the first language for over 500,000 deaf individuals across the United States and Canada. As a full-time faculty within the UAF Community and Technical College you will responsible for overseeing the ASL program to allow for greater student enrollment as you grow the ASL program. In addition to teaching and curriculum development, you will coordinate and manage the ASL program, assist with marketing and connect students to opportunities within the workforce.

To thrive in this role you will need to put your excellent communication and collaboration skills to work on a daily basis. The more teaching experience you possess, the better, a minimum of one-year teaching experience at the college level and experience with curriculum development and revision will be critical to your success.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in ASL related degree (ASL Teaching, ASL Linguistics, ASL and/or Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, ASL Interpretation);
• ASLPI score of 2 or above, or equivalent

• NAD and AKRID memberships (preferred)

Position Details:

This position is located at the UAF Community and Technical College in Fairbanks. This is a full-time, 9-month, term faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
