The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), School of Preventive and Therapeutic Sciences seeks an innovative, energetic individual who will work in a collaborative teaching environment in the delivery of School of Preventive and Therapeutic Sciences courses in the UAA Dental Hygiene program. The faculty member appointed to this position will provide advising to prospective and current Dental Hygiene students as well as didactic, laboratory, and clinical education to students enrolled in the Dental Hygiene program. The faculty member will contribute to the structure and daily operation of the program and clinic, including organization, administration, periodic review and evaluation, continued development, and general effectiveness of program curricula.

We are seeking a candidate with in-depth knowledge of contemporary curricular content for educating dental hygienists, tailored to their specific areas of expertise. The ideal candidate will possess excellent clinical dental hygiene skills and be proficient with current technologies in the field. They should demonstrate the ability to teach entry-level dental hygiene psychomotor, affective, and cognitive competencies through diverse pedagogical methods, including lectures, laboratory activities, clinical instruction, curriculum management systems like Blackboard, and online modalities. A strong background in educational theory and methodology for curriculum development, student evaluation, and outcome assessment is essential. The candidate should also have strong written and oral communication skills, computer literacy (especially with dental practice management software, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word), and the interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and the public. They should be able to work both independently and as part of a faculty team, demonstrating a commitment to the College of Health’s mission and its diverse student and staff population.

Preferred:

A qualified candidate with current knowledge of education methods and Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) dental hygiene accreditation standards and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of service on behalf of dental hygiene education, the community, and the profession. They should possess successful citizen partnership skills and experience in maintaining partnerships with private and public agencies and organizations, including advisory boards. A minimum of five years of clinical practice experience and at least three years of teaching experience in dental hygiene education are required.

Preferred candidates will have experience in curriculum development, including web-based courses, student evaluation, and program assessment. Clinical experience in dental hygiene restorative functions and competency in using digital radiography and dental practice management software are highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have a background in leading or working within a diverse workforce in a multicultural setting, familiarity with CODA accreditation processes, and experience in program and clinic management. Additionally, experience working in the community through partnerships and advisory boards is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

•A bachelor’s degree or higher in dental hygiene or related field by time of hire.
•Current (or obtained by the time of hire) Alaska Dental Hygiene or Dental License.
•Current (or obtained by the time of hire) Alaska certification in Local Anesthesia (or Alaska Dental license).
•Basic life support certification or equivalent by the time of hire.

Preferred Credentials:
•A master's degree or higher in dental hygiene or a related field by the time of hire
•State of Alaska Dental Hygiene Restorative Function endorsement
•State of Alaska Dental Hygiene Nitrous Oxide certificate

Position Details:

This position is located on the Goose Lake campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a full-time, term funded, 9-month, exempt faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
