The NRM 303x course meets the UAF ethics requirement and is required in the Natural Resources and Environment and Climate and Environmental Change majors. As such, enrollment is typically high and students passionate about the topic. Two sections of the course are offered, typically a combined in person and synchronous online course (31 students in spring 2024) and an online synchronous section (26 students in spring 2024). While an in-person modality is preferred for at least one section, synchronous or asynchronous distance options only will be considered.
Course catalog description:
3 credits. Exploration of the history of modern Western views of the relationship between people and nature, alternative foundations for an environmental ethic (utilitarianism, spiritual activity, rights-based and respect-based ethics) and practices of such ethics in business, profession and general lifestyle today.

To thrive in this role, you must enjoy engaging with undergraduate students, have training and experience in effective teaching methods, and be highly organized. The successful candidate will have knowledge of contemporary environmental issues and methods for examining the ethical dimensions of those issues.
Minimum Qualifications: Teaching or environmental education experience and at least a Master's degree in related field.
Preferred Experience & Education: Upper division teaching experience at the university level, in a variety of modalities; PhD in related natural resources or social science field
