The UAS Student Housing office is hiring Summer Cleaning Crew student assistants for summer 2026 employment to provide custodial support for Student Housing summer residents and Conference Housing Guests. Being a Summer Cleaning Crew member is a great way to improve your marketable skills for future employment, such as those pertaining to teamwork, customer service, critical thinking and problem-solving, and time management. On-site training will be provided to all Summer Cleaning Crew members and includes equipment and chemical usage training, as well as hazardous materials training. This position’s benefits include summer housing provided at no cost and 40 hours per week for custodial tasks. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis with review beginning March 11th, 2026 and on a rolling basis until successful candidates are identified.

The ideal candidate will have strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, and be comfortable working with diverse individuals. They should be able to mediate conflicts, work independently and collaboratively, and demonstrate strong problem-solving and organizational abilities. This role requires a full-time, hourly commitment in a custodial position, including participation in an on-duty rotation of 1 night per week starting at 5:00pm and ending at 8:00am as well as all-day weekend hours on a rotating basis, compensated by the Housing Credit. Physical demands include lifting 25-50 pounds and navigating various terrains and staircases. A positive attitude, reliability, and a commitment to at least one full Summer Semester are essential.

Evidence of past experience with cleaning or custodial work preferred. Preference is given to applicants with a minimum of two semesters of community living experience prior to their term of employment, but is not required. 

A valid driver's license (preferred) and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must complete all UAS employee Required Training (including Safety training, Title IX, Protection of minors, Campus Security Authority, and FERPA) within two weeks of their hire date.

At the time of hire, applicants must have applied for housing through the Department of Residence Life.

To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:

a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or
b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA), be in good academic standing, or have approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee.
d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer.
e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAS campus in Juneau. This is a full-time, non-exempt Student Level 2 position, starting wage $14.96/hr with a full housing credit.
