Student Engagement seeks a dynamic individual to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage’s (UAA) Student Activities program. This position will work with a team to create, implement, and support programming efforts at UAA to build an engaged campus community. The Student Activities Manager provides the foundation for ongoing co-curricular programs and works with both professional and student staff to deliver programming to UAA students and the broader campus community. A successful Student Activities Manager must be passionate about program and event creation, promotion, training, supervision, and the motivation of students and professional staff. The Student Activities Manager must also be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and extended hours as needed. This position reports to the Director of the Student Union.
The Student Activities Manager provides leadership for a wide range of student-focused programs that enhance campus life, promote student engagement, and support retention at UAA. This role oversees key initiatives like Concert Board, Esports, and major campus traditions, while ensuring programming reflects the diverse needs of all students. The coordinator manages event logistics, marketing, budgeting, and compliance, and builds strong partnerships across campus and the community. They also supervise and develop a team of professional and student staff, and collaborate with the Student Union to deliver inclusive, high-impact programming year-round.
To thrive in this role, candidates should have strong leadership, event management, and decision-making skills, along with a solid understanding of student development and engagement strategies. Key qualifications include experience supervising student staff, managing budgets, promoting events, and assessing program impact. Strong communication, organization, and public speaking skills are essential, as is the ability to work flexible hours. A bachelor’s degree and relevant experience are required; a master’s in College Student Personnel or a related field is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years progressively responsible relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Position Details:
This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.
