The Alaska Small Business Development Center is seeking an experienced individual to fill the SSBCI Tribal Operations Specialist position. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment where each day brings new challenges. We need someone who is flexible, self-motivated, and adept at problem-solving. This role requires dependability, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a cohesive team. The position involves significant data entry, report preparation, loan documentation, and database maintenance. It is based in Anchorage, with occasional remote work possible.

This position will be the administrative support for the newly awarded State Small Business Credit Initiative, SSBCI Tribal program that has been awarded by the US Dept of treasury and operated by the Alaska Small Business Development Center. The position will include correspondence with banking institutions and will require discretion and confidentiality. Information will be tracked and shared following established processes through a database, shared folders, and email. Documents will be compiled and routed for approvals and processing.

To thrive in this position, the ideal candidate should have experience and knowledge working in university and/or government environments, although this is helpful but not required. A history of working within federally funded programs is highly beneficial. The candidate should have a working knowledge of computer information systems and databases. General geographical knowledge and understanding of the communities in Alaska is essential. Experience compiling data for reports is important. The ideal candidate should have experience managing, developing, and distributing newsletters and other mass media. A solid knowledge of common small business terminology is advantageous. Additionally, the candidate should have the ability to speak and present in public and the ability to write, exercising good judgment to present facts and opinions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Some (three years) college coursework or specific training in the area of project management, business studies, information technology or similar and three years of progressively responsible experience. At least 3 years of experience in a professional setting and proficiency in providing excellent internal and external customer service to customers, staff, and stakeholders. Applicants with equivalent education, training, and experience are also considered.

● Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and maintaining confidentiality.
● Adobe, Cloud technology, G Suite, and Google Shared Drive experience are required
● Knowledge of processes for conducting research and managing data for report building.
● Experience managing electronic files
● Excellent oral and written communication skills.
● Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups and to work successfully as a member of a cohesive team
● Occasional travel may be required. Attendance of meetings that fall outside of the 8-5, M-F hours of operation may be required.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage, and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
