They will recruit clients from eligible audiences and complete necessary client records as required. Job requires local travel within the District with a personal vehicle. This position requires a creative self-starter with basic computer skills and strong communication skills.. Knowledge of database entry and maintenance and the ability to file and organize large amounts of information.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Nutrition Education (SNAP-Ed) is a nationwide nutrition education and obesity prevention program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). SNAP-Ed provides evidenced-based nutrition education classes that are aligned with policy, systems and environmental change strategies to create long lasting community change. The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service is an integral partner of the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services in this statewide effort.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Nutrition Education (SNAP-Ed) is a nationwide nutrition education and obesity prevention program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). An integral partner in this statewide effort is the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service (CES). CES SNAP-Ed’s mission is to inspire and empower under-served Alaskans to improve their health by promoting awareness, education, and community change through diverse partnerships, resulting in healthy eating, active living that contribute to a better quality of life. SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educators help in this effort by offering evidence-based nutrition and physical activity education, aligned with policy systems and environmental change services in community environments such as schools, afterschool programs, summer youth programs, food pantries, food banks and other qualifying sites.
To thrive in this role requires a dependable creative self-starter with strong computer skills: strong communication skills to engage participants in person and/or online; knowledge of database entry and maintenance; ability to file and organize large amounts of information; a growth mindset free of bias; experience working with a diverse population and practicing empathy, active listening and patience.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one (1) year experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. May require licensure and/or certification.
Six months experience leading formal or informal educational activities or providing nutrition or community health services to individuals or groups.
Valid Alaska Driver's License or the ability to obtain one.
Position Details:
This position is located in Anchorage Alaska. This is a part-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
