The Arctic and Homeland Defense Center (AHDC) UARC at the Geophysical Institute is seeking a Security Specialist to be the primary point of contact for security matters at AHDC.  If you have an interest in classified R&D, industrial security and contributing to the unique mission of AHDC in a meaningful way, this is the job for you.  Help UAF perform a critical function for the Nation while building and implementing policies that will protect its secrets and support our servicemembers.

This position will provide security support to the Arctic and Homeland Defense Center UARC within the Geophysical Institute. This individual will serve as the primary point of contact for industrial security matters at the UARC. The incumbent will be expected to ensure UARC compliance with Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community (IC) and Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) requirements. The incumbent will coordinate with UA FSO to assist in conducting security briefings, debriefings, and training for cleared staff and visitors as well as maintaining facility clearances, personnel clearances, and visit authorizations. Finally, incumbent will develop, maintain, and enforce security policies, SOPs, and best practices for classified and unclassified programs within the UARC.

To thrive in this role the person should have in-depth knowledge of government and industrial security best practices (NISPOM, DoDM 5205.07, ICDs, etc.) as well as an understanding of JPAS/DISS, NISS, and related security systems. The incumbent should have a working knowledge of industrial security procedures. Former experience as a contractor or government security officer with knowledge of SCIF management is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related field and five years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Must possess (or be able to obtain and maintain) an active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

Master’s degree preferred.

Completion of DCSA or equivalent security training programs preferred.

Prior experience as a Contractor Security Manager, Government Security Manager, or Military Security Specialist Preferred.

Experience as a Special Security Officer (SSO) with responsibility for SCIF management preferred.

Position Details:

This position is located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. Remote work agreements within the United States will be considered for this position.

This position is full-time, Grade 80, term-funded, exempt, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, based on education and experience.
