School of Nursing Academic Specialist

The School of Nursing is seeking applications for the Academic Specialist position. The Academic Specialist will work with the School of Nursing leadership and faculty in developing highly skilled and culturally competent nursing workforce to promote positive change, and to improve the quality of healthcare within Native communities.

The ideal candidate for this position should possess a comprehensive understanding of health service academic programs and clinical practice expectations, encompassing traditional hospital-based, community-based, and preceptorship models of clinical learning environments. They should demonstrate a strong ability to establish and maintain robust relationships within the nursing communities throughout Alaska. Exceptional written communication skills are a must, accompanied by proficiency in utilizing spreadsheet and database programs, coupled with a keen eye for detail. Exceptional communication skills, including negotiation, memoranda of understanding (MOUs), and evaluation skills, are paramount. Highly developed organizational proficiency is required, as the role demands the ability to work independently and navigate a complex organizational structure while maintaining utmost attention to detail, exercising considerable discretion, confidentiality, and independent judgment.

The successful candidate should thrive in an academic and team-based environment, and be prepared to represent the University and School of Nursing in a positive and professional manner at all times.

Preferred Experience:
• Preferred experience in a leadership role.
• Preferred experience in healthcare and/or academic settings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in health, education, or business/management-related field and two (2) years relevant experience in office administration and leadership, preferably in an academic environment or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master’s degree preferred.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
