The REC Center is looking for a qualified, energetic person to join the team during the mid-Fall 2025 semester. This flexible position is responsible for the safe operation and programming of the REC's climbing facility and the inventory and maintenance of the REC Center's growing outdoor gear rentals.

We are looking for self-motivated team players that enjoy spending time at the REC Center and taking advantage of its diverse facility offerings. This position is split between providing climbing wall orientations and programming to REC Center members and climbing gym renters and maintaining and inventorying our growing outdoor gear rentals. Be the one to help open this great resource to the UAS community! Our current coordinator will be leaving following the end of the Fall semester, but able to provide hands-on training to this new employee. This is a great opportunity and sets you up for success. Training will begin mid Fall semester and based on your schedule. Once the spring semester begins it's all you!

Must have experience in rock climbing, preferably in an indoor gym. Attention to detail is mandatory. Must have excellent customer service skills and the desire to work with a diverse pubic. Must be comfortable talking to and instructing small groups. Must be able to maintain, repair, and warranty rental equipment as needed. Oversee periodic climbing wall and rental gear inventory to insure all gear is accounted for and in working order. Assist in training REC front desk staff in the check out, and return of climbing and rental gear. Maintain system for tracking climbing certifications and tests. Be able to develop and maintain relations with the members of the REC and REC Staff. Knowledge of how to set routes and maintain climbing wall and equipment.

Requires current certification or willingness to obtain certification in Basic First Aid and Adult CPR.

Minimum Qualifications:

1-3 years of indoor/outdoor rock climbing. Must be a current UAS student maintaining a minimum of 6 credits while maintaining a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAS campus in Juneau, Alaska. This is a part-time, student hourly position starting at $14.38/hr.
