Prince William Sound College (PWSC) is searching for a temporary qualified Maintenance Service Worker IV to perform facility maintenance at the PWSC Valdez campus. Summary: PWSC is a one-of-a-kind institution of higher education located in Valdez, Alaska. The main campus and its extension sites in Cordova and Copper Basin are set amidst some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery and rich cultural history. PWSC is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities through the University of Alaska Anchorage. Besides a general studies degree, PWSC offers associate degrees and occupational certificates not readily available elsewhere, such as Millwright, and Outdoor Leadership. The mission of Prince William Sound College is to use its unique resources and magnificent landscape to enrich the lives of our students and our communities.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work independently and in a group setting including following and communicating instructions given by management; relating in a positive manner to management and other employees; making efforts to solve crew conflicts; and assisting in providing a productive and safe work environment.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pressures, frequency, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to talk to other employees, supervisors, or the public; hear instructions or requests of other employees, supervisors, or the public; sit while operating large equipment or working on a stationary project; and may be exposed to the unpleasant smell of odors and gases.

The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, night vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

To thrive it this role, experience with heavy equipment and snow removal is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Apprentice level or equivalent certification; or a minimum of six years multi-trade experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

An unrestricted Alaska driver’s license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria is required.

Position Details:

This position is located on the PWSC campus in Valdez. This is a full-time temporary position.

Salary Information: MSW4 /Step 1 $24.62/hr.  (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule).
