Planetarium Education Outreach Specialist

Fascinated by space? Enjoy outreach? Consider joining UAMN's dynamic Education and Public Programs team as our Planetarium Education Outreach Specialist. This position works with volunteers and K-12 school groups to create and connect youth to inspiring experiences.

UAMN's Education and Public Programs department welcomes more than 3,500 K-12 students each year. The Planetarium Education Outreach Specialist will introduce these children to the magic of UAMN's newly opened Walt and Marita Babula Planetarium. Duties include planetarium field trip set up, interfacing with volunteer docents leading hands-on activities, assisting with field trip scheduling and volunteer training, fielding queries from schools, operation of the planetarium system for school shows, presentation to school audiences, review of age-appropriate content options and making recommendations, developing new offerings for school and youth audiences with a focus on activities to accompany planetarium film experiences, and planning and leading youth programming including a space science themed summer camp.

To thrive in this role, the applicant should have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational skills and experience, demonstrate excellent reliability and timeliness, and an ability to work within a multifaceted team.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in education, science, art, anthropology or other relevant field and two years of teaching or outreach experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience working in museums or other informal learning settings desired.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a part-time temporary, non-exempt staff position working 20 hours per week, ~10 months. Main working hours will be weekday mornings. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
