The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) invites applications for a tenure-track, joint-appointed faculty position with the Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering starting fall 2025. We seek highly qualified candidates with a passion for teaching, research, and fostering an inclusive academic environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering or a relevant field of study. We expect this position to support the recently established Energy Resources Engineering program within the College of Engineering & Mines.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring students, conducting innovative research, and contributing to departmental and university service. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is required. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and research, as well as a strong potential for securing external funding.
To thrive in the role of Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering, the applicant should possess a strong foundation in both theoretical and applied mechanical engineering. They should demonstrate a proven ability to design and deliver high-quality, engaging courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and have a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment. Successful candidates should have a track record of research excellence, with the ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals and secure external funding for innovative projects. Effective communication skills, both in teaching and research collaboration, along with a passion for mentoring students, are essential. The applicant should also be proactive in contributing to departmental service and university initiatives, while continuously striving for personal and professional development in the field.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have a BS degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, and Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely-related discipline.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a full-time, 9-month base, exempt faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Salary is negotiable and based on education and experience.
