The University of Alaska Fairbanks, in partnership with the Directorate of Public Works at Fort Wainwright, is seeking a full-time, term-funded, Maintenance Technician (MSW4) to join our skilled team. This entry-level position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and rapid response work on heating, plumbing, water, sanitary drainage, and alarm systems across Fort Wainwright facilities. The technician will assist with inspections, plumbing fixture installations, and general facility upkeep while adhering to strict safety protocols.

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience in construction, maintenance, or a related field, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Must be physically able to lift up to 70 pounds and work safely in various environments, including areas with potential hazardous materials. A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain military installation access clearance are required.

To thrive in this role, applicants should have hands-on experience in construction, maintenance, or related fields, with a strong commitment to safety and attention to detail. Successful candidates will be able to work independently and collaboratively, effectively prioritize tasks, and communicate clearly with supervisors and team members. Physical stamina and the ability to handle tools and equipment safely are essential. A willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic military facility environment will help ensure ongoing success.

Minimum Qualifications:

Apprentice level or equivalent certification; or a minimum of six years multi-trade experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrate at least one year in a field related to this position (construction or maintenance).
High School graduate or equivalent.
Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card and be able to access military installations

Position Details:

This position is located on the Fort Wainwright campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt Local 6070 staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Salary Information: MSW4 /Step 1 $22.80/hr. (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule)

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
