Do you have lived or learned experience in addressing the behavioral health needs of children in Alaska? As a part of the new Children's Mental Health Initiative from Alaska's Division of Behavioral Health (DBH), the Lead Family Coordinator (LFC) is an exciting new opportunity for someone to work with agencies and families across Alaska to implement new projects which address the behavioral health needs of children in their own communities. This role will involve meeting people, training, using data for decision-making, and working with diverse communities across Alaska both online and in person. The Center for Human Development at UAA is excited to announce a new position that will assist agencies across Alaska in addressing community-specific behavioral health needs for children. Developed in collaboration with the State of Alaska Division of Behavioral Health through their new Children's Mental Health Initiative, the new Lead Family Coordinator position is an opportunity for enthusiastic change-makers to work with professionals, staff, and families to identify and implement evidence-based practices which will improve access to behavioral health services for Alaskan children. The successful candidate can anticipate opportunities such as collaborating with partners to develop and implement trainings, analyzing data to identify strengths and gaps in the current children's behavioral health system, working with Alaskan agencies to effectively communicate findings to community members, and being a leading voice in developing recommendations that will strengthen and improve behavioral health care for children across Alaska. This position will operate statewide, with regular travel to rural communities as well as annual meetings in Anchorage/Juneau and Washington D.C. Other highlights of this position will be using lived experience as part of the work, working in culturally and trauma response ways, working closely with state agencies and local providers.

To thrive in this role, the successful applicant will have a demonstrated passion for improving Alaska's behavioral health system for children through successful collaboration with community-based organizations. This person should have lived experience with the children's behavioral health system, either as a family member, a clinical professional, or a combination of those two experiences. Other skills which will help this individual be successful include having had training or lived experience in various aspects of Behavior Health (ex: trauma-informed care and responsiveness, FASD, severe emotional disturbance); enjoying working with diverse groups of people (ex: teams, agency staff, family members, etc.); being comfortable talking, sharing, and presenting in front of large groups; and having education or training in how to interpret and use data for decision making, including developing achievable recommendations and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

A qualified applicant for this position can have one of two backgrounds: 1) Lived experience with the behavioral health system for children here in Alaska OR 2) A Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, education, counseling, behavior analysis, human services or a related field. The qualified applicant be able to document up to 6 years of experience - through formal education, training, lived experience or working in behavioral health agencies. Writing and public speaking should also be part of the applicant's experience since this person will be facilitating meetings and reporting on progress monthly.

Position Details:

This position is a remote within Alaska position with the ability to work from any UA campus throughout the state. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
