As a University of Alaska Labor and Employee Relations Investigator, you can enjoy a bountiful opportunity to work with our professional and knowledgeable labor and employee relation employees. The team collaborates daily to investigate and solve items important to all employees. This role strengthens human resources service to UA by being our key investigator. You will be developing an investigative plan with timelines, identifying and interviewing parties and witnesses, identifying relevant evidence, gathering and analyzing relevant documentation, and maintaining detailed accurate records and notes.
To be successful in this position, our UA HR investigator will have a background in investigative work to include writing comprehensive reports, have strong critical thinking skills and judgment with the demonstrated ability to analyze and apply legal and policy standards to fact patterns.
Must have demonstrated investigatory experience gathering facts, analytical and/or problem-solving capabilities and the ability to present ideas clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience, along with at least five years of investigatory experience is required.
Five years of HR experience with at least two years in a labor relations related role, a strong knowledge of labor laws and employee relations with the ability to handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion. Strong background in employee relations, training, or investigations in Alaska.
A preference will be given to individuals who hold a J.D. with demonstrated evidence/fact gathering experience requiring interviews.
For this position, UA HR prefers a candidate who has experience in higher education, legal, law enforcement, employment, journalism, or regulatory compliance settings (or substantially related areas). Master’s degree preferred. Professional in Human Resources certification (PHR) preferred.
Position Details:
This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
