Love bikes and sustainability? The UAF Green Bikes program is hiring a mechanic and shop assistant to keep our shop running smoothly. This hands-on role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with people, learning new skills, and promoting eco-friendly transportation on campus. No prior mechanic experience needed—training is provided!

The Green Bikes Mechanic and Shop Assistant supports the UAF Green Bikes program by performing bike repairs, assisting with rentals, and maintaining an organized and welcoming shop space. This role combines hands-on mechanic work with customer service, outreach, and basic administrative support. Training is provided, and a passion for biking and sustainability is a plus.

Reliability and initiative – Consistently shows up on time, follows through on tasks, and takes ownership of shop responsibilities.

Strong communication and customer service skills – Comfortable helping a wide range of people with bike rentals, repairs, and questions.

Willingness to learn – Open to training in bike mechanics and eager to build technical skills over time.

Teamwork and collaboration – Works well with others in a shop setting and during events.

Organizational skills – Keeps tools and workspaces tidy, tracks inventory, and helps maintain shop functionality.

Adaptability – Able to shift between hands-on repairs, customer interactions, and occasional administrative tasks.

Enthusiasm for biking and sustainability – Brings a positive attitude and interest in promoting active, eco-friendly transportation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicant must be enrolled as a UAF student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and perform hands-on tasks in a shop environment.

This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Fairbanks..

This is a Student Assistant 2 Position, minimum starting pay is $14.96 per hour. 

This recruitment is open to undergraduate students only.
