The International Arctic Research Center (IARC) actively recruits graduate students for research assistantship positions throughout the academic year. These temporary appointments are made on a per-semester basis and offer an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative research environment. IARC may be hiring from this pool during the year, and the duties assigned will vary depending on the specific department’s needs. Applicants are reviewed on an as-needed basis by various departments during the year.

Multiple departments within IARC may hire from this pool as needs arise, and assigned duties will vary depending on departmental requirements. Applications are reviewed on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year by individual departments. Submission to this pool does not guarantee review or selection.

To thrive in this role, applicants should demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with colleagues and faculty. Ability to pay attention to detail is essential to ensure accuracy in all aspects of the work. Graduate research candidates should have relevant experience, take a proactive approach to problem-solving, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team—meeting deadlines and contributing to shared goals.

Success in this position also requires adaptability, a willingness to learn new skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of performance. An interest in, and capacity to learn, curriculum or research design and support is highly valued. Candidates should have a foundational understanding of learning, research, or creative processes. Strong organizational abilities and clear, effective communication are also key to succeeding in this role.

Minimum Qualifications:

Awarded Bachelor's degree and Pursuing a Graduate degree at UAF.
Awarded a Master's Degree and Pursuing a PhD degree at UAF.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Fairbanks campus in Fairbanks and flexible on-site work arrangements may be considered as the research assignment(s) permit. This is/are part-time when school is in session (*opportunity for more hours when school is not in session or during semester breaks)/term-funded exempt student position, union represented (AGWA/UAW). New hires will be placed on the graduate student pay schedule accordingly (*pursuing a Masters or a PhD degree).

This is a pooled position and it will remain open over the academic year 2026-2027. Applicants are reviewed on an as-needed basis by various departments during the year. The Graduate Research Assistantship (GRAD RA) Job Pool closes June 30, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Alaska Standard Time.
