As our Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) Manager, you will play a strategic and hands-on role in guiding University of Alaska’s information governance, risk management, data privacy, and compliance efforts. You will lead the development and implementation of IT risk policies, frameworks, and compliance programs that support UA’s mission while meeting federal, state, and contractual obligations.

You'll bridge academic, administrative, and research sectors, directly strengthening our cybersecurity, data governance, and overall risk posture.

To thrive in this role, you must have a unique combination of technical knowledge, regulatory policy acumen, leadership, people skills, and strategic thinking. Curiosity, adaptability, diplomacy, and a mission-driven mindset are critical, especially in the higher education environment, where collaboration, academic freedom, and regulatory complexity intersect.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required (Information Security, Law, Public Policy, or related field preferred);

    OR an equivalent combination of training, education, and documented professional experience. Master’s preferred.

  • Certifications: CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CGEIT, CIPP, or similar preferred

  • Experience:

    • 5+ years in GRC, cybersecurity, risk management, or compliance roles OR an equivalent combination of training, education, and documented professional experience.

    • Experience working in or with higher education institutions or other decentralized environments

    • Demonstrated success in leading cross-departmental policy and compliance efforts

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' UAF campus in Fairbanks, AK, and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 84, based on education and experience.
