Share your love of language with others as an English Support Tutor. The Interior Alaska Campus (IAC) has an opening for a full-time benefited staff position to add to our Student Success team.

The English Support Tutor helps students master critical communication skills in lower-level English courses.

This position works closely with IAC faculty and student service staff to enhance student engagement and build strong foundations. As an integral part of IAC’s English program, the Support Tutor is embedded in the classroom as well as providing individual sessions for students. This position works with the Student Success Team to identify at-risk students and work toward solutions. Classes can be in-person or distance delivery.

IAC provides a friendly work environment.

This position is for someone who enjoys working with people and takes pride in helping others overcome barriers and succeed. The English Support Tutor must be able to communicate effectively and work well with a diverse group of people. Prior experience providing English support, working with Native peoples and/or first-generation students is a plus. As IAC offers a combination of day and night classes, this person will need to be able to accommodate a flexible schedule, through a combination of in-person and remote work.

IAC is a unique campus due to the area served, the teaching formats used, and the integration of cultural knowledge and practices into the courses offered.

IAC provides higher education to a remote and largely roadless area that covers almost 200,000 square miles and 46 rural communities in Interior Alaska. The vast majority of IAC’s service area is an immense wilderness that is roadless and isolated.

The main administrative and educational center for the campus is located at the Harper Building in Fairbanks. IAC seeks to keep a connection with the communities we serve through in-person contact as well as technology. This position will work out of Fairbanks and travel to villages in IAC’s service area.

IAC offers Occupational Endorsements, certificate programs, and Associate Degrees. These programs are designed to meet local needs and many courses can be transferred into 4-year Baccalaureate Degree programs. Courses are offered through distance education methods as well as in-person intensives. Many courses are scheduled to accommodate a subsistence lifestyle.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate degree in English or a related field and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
