Located in the ancestral homeland of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian peoples, the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is dedicated to fostering excellence in education. We are seeking a visionary Dean for our School of Education (SOE) who will lead with passion and dedication to student success, faculty excellence, and the values of cultural safety and belonging across our statewide programs. The SOE is renowned for developing effective and committed educators and leaders who make a profound impact on Alaska's educational landscape. We prioritize partnerships with P-12 schools, educational organizations, Alaska Native/American Indian organizations, and Tribes to enhance the education of P-12 students throughout the state.

To thrive in the role of Dean of the School of Education, you will drive the mission and vision of the University of Alaska system, UAS, and the SOE in a collaborative and inclusive manner. You will foster a commitment to shared governance, engaging effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community partners. Promoting excellence in teaching, research, and service, with a focus on Alaska's distinctive educational needs, will be a primary objective. Additionally, you will support and enhance the faculty's commitment to cultural safety, lead strategic and budgetary planning, and advocate for the SOE and its programs.

Your role will involve contributing to faculty and staff recruitment, professional development, and evaluation. Ensuring the educational effectiveness of the SOE’s undergraduate and graduate programs through rigorous academic standards and data-informed decision-making is crucial. You will oversee and facilitate external accreditation processes, including the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and encourage interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary collaboration across the UA system and with external partners.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with both urban and rural P-12 schools and engagement with accreditation processes in higher education, preferably CAEP. Experience engaging with Indigenous populations, supporting non-traditional students, and knowledge or experience with alternate educator preparation pathways are highly valued. You should have experience planning and implementing professional development for faculty and staff, along with strong collaborative leadership skills, including conflict resolution.

Key qualifications include experience with budget management and writing or administering grants or other external funding. You should have a background in collaboration and advocacy with public officials on policy issues and proficiency with digital productivity tools such as Google Workspace and Zoom. Familiarity with the delivery of distance education and a demonstrated commitment to effective work with families, schools, non-profits, Alaska Native/American Indian organizations, Tribes, communities, as well as state and federal agencies, is essential.

If you are a dynamic leader with a passion for educational excellence and a commitment to addressing the unique challenges and opportunities in Alaska, we encourage you to apply for the position of Dean of the School of Education at UAS.
