The University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking a Dean for the College of Business and Public Policy. The ideal candidate is a self-aware, adaptable, and collaborative leader who champions excellence in research, teaching, and student success. They embrace innovation and technology as a catalyst for growth, encouraging faculty and staff to adopt new tools to prepare students for a digital world and empower faculty and staff, while promoting a culture of innovation in management and development.

They serve as a student-focused advocate to enhance the student experience, support diverse learners, and build connections from classroom to career. By identifying community and business needs and delivering targeted solutions, they lay a strong foundation for successful fundraising. With a growth-oriented mindset and global perspective, they account for the perspectives of Alaska Native people and maintain an active campus presence with sophisticated political skills to unify diverse views and build consensus in shared governance.

The position reports directly to the Provost. The anticipated hire date is June 28, 2026.

Minimum Qualifications:

• At least five years of demonstrated, effective leadership and/or administrative experience in an educational, public service, or equivalent professional setting, including demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program development, policy formulation, budgeting, and fiscal management.
• Earned terminal degree (e.g., PhD, DBA) in an area as defined in the CBPP Faculty Evaluation Guidelines.
• Experience and qualifications at a level sufficient to merit the award of tenure within a discipline represented in the College, or comparable leadership in non-academic settings.
• Experience organizing and planning with an ability to delegate, supervise, and execute a complex accreditation-type effort.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Leadership experience with AACSB (or similar) accreditation processes, assessment, and continuous improvement standards.
• Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication, including active listening, public speaking, and transparent engagement with multiple constituencies.
• Excellent reputation in promoting a collaborative and collegial working environment.
• Demonstrated record of successful fundraising, development, and securing extramural funding, including grants and sponsored research.
• Financial acumen, including awareness of resources (e.g., time, funds) required to support faculty research productivity and ensure fiscal sustainability.
• Ability to articulate a cogent fundraising strategy relevant to Alaska.
• Demonstrated record of building partnerships and collaborations with a broad range of constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, administrative colleagues, alumni, and the external business and public policy communities.
• Proven ability to develop and strengthen relationships with local, state, national, and international organizations with a focus on workforce alignment and industry needs.
• Business or professional experience outside academia, preferably in sectors relevant to Alaska's economy (e.g., energy, logistics, public policy).
• Ability to effectively manage staff and faculty, support professional development, and foster a collaborative, collegial, and inclusive environment.
• Experience in promoting co-curricular activities, program innovation, and alignment with university goals, including efficient resource use across campuses.
• Experience in fostering a culture of innovation by promoting the adoption of emerging technologies into the curriculum or workforce.

 

Position Details:

This is a full-time, executive management, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
